What a FIRST DAY for our new Year 7s! 🌟
Welcome to the family, Year 7! We couldn't be more impressed with how our newest students kicked off their secondary school journey today.
They dived straight in with a fantastic Jack Petchey Oracy Workshop, finding their voices, building confidence, and learning how to speak with clarity and passion. The energy in the room was incredible!
Then, they put their new skills and teamwork to the test in a creative challenge, designing and building unique 'Paxman Themed Cogs'. It was brilliant to see them collaborating and connecting their ideas. ⚙️
A huge "well done" to every single student for their amazing enthusiasm and for settling in so brilliantly. This is the start of something special!

It's been a great first day!
We had the pleasure of hosting Talk The Talk who delivered their "Talk About Transition" workshop to our amazing Year 7 students today. A huge thank you to the Jack Petchey Foundation for their partnership, which makes this work possible. We were so impressed with the students' enthusiasm and how ready they were to participate. Developing these essential oracy and communication skills is so important for their future success, and it was a joy to see them so engaged.

📣 Your Words, Your Power! Introducing a National Poetry Competition! 📣
We're incredibly excited to share the launch of ‘The Power of Words,’ a national children’s poetry competition created by Words Matter and First News . This isn't just about writing; it's about giving children a platform to express how words shape them.
Following the impactful new film released this month (featuring 13-year-old Ethan bringing Tally Gilbert’s poignant poem to life!), First news are inviting children to share their unique perspectives.
They want to hear poems that explore the power of words from the adults in their lives. How do those words make them feel – confident, happy, seen, or perhaps sad, anxious, or isolated? This is a chance to truly show that #WordsMatter.
Encourage the young writers in your life to get involved!

Open to all children and First News readers, enter by emailing your poem to WIN@FIRSTNEWS.CO.UK and put ‘Words Matter’ in the subject line.
Children must include a parent or guardian’s name and a contact phone number or email so First News can reach the winners.
