Frequently Asked Questions at the start of Year 7

  • Who do I call when my child is sick?

Please telephone the school office on 01206 413813 before 08:20 am Or

Email on:

absence@paxmanacademy.school

You need to explain the reason for the absence and give some details.  This will need to be done every day of absence

On the third day we need written information from you / GP about the circumstances.

Students will find out their tutors on the first day in September. They just need to  come into school as they did today and we will direct them to where they need to be. All groups will then have email contact of their tutor shared on the first day. Email is the best way to communicate with tutors or teachers as they are not able to  take calls during the day!

There is a section in your booklet that outlines the general expectations on Homework at Paxman Academy.

English, Maths and Science will set Homework weekly

These will usually be based on SPARXmaths, SPARXreader and SENECA for Science

Other depts will set reward based Homework that are enrichment projects

When students are on site, mobile phones must be out of sight, turned off and placed in the student's bag. Our genuine advice is that they do not bring their phone to school unless it is vital for their safety walking home. Students seen using their phones inappropriately and in the wrong place will have them confiscated.

Yes, but if they are not in lessons, they are not learning. Please  talk to your children about learning to use the toilets at break and lunch. These are 30 mins each so there is a lot of time to use the facilities. Teachers are asked to record all trips to the toilet during lesson time so that  we can communicate frequency etc with home - we find this useful to spot  issues and medical needs.

This will be shared with them in paper copy on the first day.  - You will then be able to view it on the ClassCharts app as well.

Term starts on the 2nd September 2026

Year 7s need to be in school for 8:25 - the school gates close at 8:25!

Arbor Pay is used to be able to buy food in the canteen. This is used for trips, visits and other expenses too.

This can be topped up on the App and your children can check their totals  with their cards.

They will be issued a card on their first day of school.

They need to keep this card with them every day, as without it, they will need  to queue up at the back of the line.

If they lose their card you can contact the office and pay a nominal admin fee of £1 to get a new card issued.

Lists of clubs come out from both the central office and departments themselves.

Tutors will tell pupils about opportunities and the newsletters that are issued every two weeks often have new updates or clubs.

A full list of extra-curricular clubs is available on the school website.

Parents evenings; the same as at Primary school but with a variety of  teachers. There is an online booking system and you will receive communication of how this works for you before your first parents evening

The aim is that all students attend school at least 95% of the time. This means that they should be attending 180/190 days of a school year. If they can’t reach this figure due to severe illness, accidents or

circumstances outside of your control then it's not a problem. But you and they should be doing everything in your power to get them into school. Thank you for all your work and efforts on this.
